Institute of animal science (fisheries research institute), Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences is a public welfare second-class scientific research institutions of Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, founded in 1952, mainly engaged in poultry breeding, poultry nutrition and feed science, aquatic disciplines, herbivores and pratacultural science, research and development of ecological aquaculture and environmental control, systematic microbiology and synthetic biology.
 
The institute has established several platforms, such as the State Key Laboratory of Livestock and Poultry Breeding, the Key Laboratory of Animal Nutrition and Feed Science（South China）of Ministry of Agriculture, the Evaluation Organization of Effectiveness and Tolerability of Feeds and Feed Addictive of Ministry of Agriculture, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Animal Breeding and Nutrition, Guangdong Technical Committee of Standardization on Animal Husbandry, Systematic Microbiology and Synthetic Biology Innovation Laboratory. As the main body of implementation, the institute led the construction of Guangdong Modern Poultry and Seed Industrial Park , which is one of the three functional industrial parks approved for construction in Guangdong Province in 2022. Since the Tenth Five-Year Plan, the institute has won 71 national and provincial awards for scientific and technological achievements, including 6 second awards of state scientific and technological progress. It has passed three sets of  supporting systems of examination and approval of national livestock and poultry breeds. What’s more, it has formulated 4 national standards, 4 industry standards, 2 group standards, and authorized more than 50 invention patents.
